TEACHING

I maintain a private viola studio with students of all ages in the San Francisco Bay Area.
As a teacher, my philosophy is centered on the principle that technical mastery unlocks the door to musical expression, artistic creativity, and a lifetime of musical collaboration. Using a combination of scales, etudes, and repertoire, I work with each student to achieve individual approaches in facility and relaxation. Every student is unique, and I vary my teaching approach based on each student's learning style and goals.
My students have performed in Carnegie Hall; as soloists with orchestras including the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra and Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra; received prizes and recognition in competitions including the Music Teachers Association of California VOCE Competition, Junior Bach Festival, the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition, the United States Open Music Competition, the American Protege Competition, and the United States International Music Competition; and attended festivals including Music@Menlo, the Meadowmount School of Music, and Tanglewood.
I'm grateful to my own teachers over the years, including Heidi Castleman, Misha Amory, Steve Tenenbom, Roberto Diaz, Michael Tree, Daniel Panner, Jesse Levine, Jodi Levitz, and Jenny Rudin, for teaching me with the same dedication, love, and insight that I hope to share with generations of young violists to come. I am a member of the American String Teachers Association and the Music Teachers' Association of California, and a Board Member and member of the American Viola Society.
